RhondaOutlawMemberSo, Mary, according to you: ‘I see the yuppie moms go into the corner store with little kids. The Yuppie kids get stuff like OJ, water, milk, bagels, fruit, or cheerios. The lower class moms buy their kids soda, those Hi-C juice bottles, chips, and all sorts of packaged pastries, cakes etc.’ Exactly what the hell do you mean by ‘lower class’? Because the moms don’t make quite as much money as you?? Has every ‘lower class’ parent in the neighborhood shopped for these items only in this store? Have you inspected the kitchen cabinets of every single African American family and found ‘junk food’??? For YOUR information, I am an African American mother of a nine year old boy who encourages ‘healthy eating’, and so do many other African American parents. Many of the children of so-called Yuppie (yuppie sounds so ridiculous) parents get allowances, and guess what they’re doing with those allowance?? They’re eating the very same junk food you claim only ‘lower class’ and ‘minority’ kids eat. Here’s a newflash for you, Miss racist…CHILDREN, of all walks of life, eat junk food, when they are out of the reach of their parents. It was nothing short of stupid for you take this situation and make it a racial issue. You’re a very silly woman. Grow the hell up.

JuliParticipantI have heard of Purple Passion. It was the best grape soda there was. How about Cactus cooler and Tahitian treat?

kate26815Participantwhen i told my husband about this site and what you could ask,,,that was the first question he asked…whats with the grape and orange soda?,,,he works in a very black neighborhood and noticed that the flavored sodas have a prominent place in the convenience store, while the colas are kept mostly in the back cooler. I also work in a restaurant in a very well to do hotel, with people of all classes as guests. we dont carry the flavored sodas, but the next drink of choice is lemonade. very seldom do blacks ask for a coke. i dont know what the reason is, but its a good question…perhaps its a regional thing…

Peter30389ParticipantI’ve noticed this too. I’ve been a manager for various McDonald’s Restaraunts since I was 18 (I’m 38 now). I’ve always wondered why orange drinks are more popular with black customers. I don’t think the reason is a poor vs. non poor issue, or related to class, as there are other drinks that cost about the same and are more healthy to have (apple juice, orange juice, etc). I’m not paying more attention or too close attention to black customers vs. non black customers, as someone else has offered as a reason for this….I probably personally handle 400 to 500 customers per day 5 days per week 52 a year for 20 years…it’s been pretty consistent at all places I’ve worked that this is so. After a few years, you tend to notice trends…who likes what, etc. I wouldn’t be a good manager if I wasn’t aware of my customers now would I? I find it interesting scientifically, but never could ask any of my co-workers who happen to be black because it would be very inappropriate IMO. The closest I ever got to it was asking one of my coworkers why she loved Orange drink so much (she was ALWAYS drinking it). Her response was ‘It makes my mouth and tongue tickle!’ heheh

Chad24252ParticipantThis assertion is true.Everyday at work,in the break area I notice that the white people always drink coke, pepsi,or water and ALL of the blacks drink either grape or orange soda.
