AlmaParticipantI’ve seen several posts regarding the perceived or real tension between black men and black women and how each feels the other treats them in a inferior manner. I have daily interactions with black males and females who treat each other respectfully as long as it is a work and/or business setting. However, the minute that enviroment is considered changed, the attempts to manipulate, degrade, or ‘play’ take place and the tension levels jump up 10 points. My question is this. If you have no problem treating the man or woman with respect at work, what makes you think that changes when its a social setting? Hell, I feel better when I try to treat those around me with respect, doesnt it make sense to just carry it beyond 5pm? And it seems to go deeper than the ‘white women are gods’ belief. I hear black men commenting that women should be mothers and not working much more frequently than white men. I’m not assuming anglo men and women don’t have the same problem to whatever degree, but I’ve been surprised at the hostility expressed between black men and women here. For those who may feel I’m naive or ignorant, indulge me. You’d be surprised how many people don’t understand this.
