I’ve been in a relationship with an Iranian Muslim before, and we still like each other a lot. He didn’t have any Iranian friends, though, and I rarely came in contact with his parents. My question: Is there anything in Iranian or Muslim beliefs that prohibits or discourages relationships between Iranians/Muslims and someone of another race/religion/nationality? If these kinds of relationships are discouraged, is it just a personal/family/peer group preference, or is it representative of a larger, general feeling?

Islam allows Muslims to marry only the people of the book: Muslims, Christians and Jews. Muslims are not allowed to marry atheists or Buddhists, for example, unless they convert.

Muslim men may marry Jewish, Christian, or Muslim women but Muslim women are only allowed to marry Muslim men. For an interesting side note: Mohammed (the greatest Islamic prophet) was even married to a Coptic christian woman by the name of Mary.
