Sasha28170ParticipantWhy are all models like size 0 and 1? I have seen several heavy women who are dazzling. I am an attractive teen, but I am a size 6 and no guy will date me because of my weight. They have even told me that’s why.

JanonMemberSasha, I’m sure you’ve heard this before, but it’s absolutely ridiculous to think that a person who is a size 6 is fat or overweight. Depending on your height, this is either slim or average. To answer you question, though, generally, models will be thinner than most people because the camera adds ~15 pounds to your frame (don’t know why…); the super-skinny model/actress phenomena going on right now is just a fad. Seriously, I know NO MEN who find these women’s bodies attractive (admittedly a small poll). You’re probably hanging out with young men (teens and early twenties), who tend to be more influenced by the fad-of-the-moment. In all polls I’ve seen, men find women attractive who are about 10 pounds heavier than the women’s self-imposed ideal weight. I don’t know if this makes you feel any better; I think the best answer is to find some MEN (read mature), who are attracted to normal women’s bodies.

Lucy-H22367ParticipantFirst, I would like to say that size 6 is NOT overweight. You didn’t say how tall you are, but I am under 5′ tall and wear a size 6. I am the optimum weight for my height. And since you are probably taller than me, you may even be a little on the thin side. Many women get stuck on trying to look like runway models, but the fact is, the only women who look like that are the models. The average woman is a size 12. It is actually unhealthy to be as thin as most models, and many have to pretty much starve themselves to stay that way. What you should focus on is your overall health. Make sure you are eating well and getting enough exercise. If you are unhappy with the way you look, it may be that you just need to tone your muscles. Try some weight training, swimming, bike riding or whatever you like to do that burns fat and builds lean muscle. You will probably be a lot happier with your body.
And for those guys who say they won’t date you because they say you are ‘overweight’ – forget about them. There are plenty of other guys around, and once you get to college, there will be tons more. Who wants to go out with a guy who is so superficial, anyway? So right now, make sure you eat good food, get some exercise, hang out with your friends and enjoy life – and take it to heart that you are NOT overweight.

Caren19226ParticipantIt is good that those boys feel that way because you are too good for them. I am a size 14, and I am healthy and attractive. I do not consider myself fat, just slightly overweight. My husband finds me very attractive. I hope that you find someone who appreciates you for who you are. Most people I know consider size 6 to be a size of someone who is on the thin side!

Kenny L.MemberWassup Sasha, I think its in how you look at it. I know that there are so many damn skinny models out there. But it really all depends on the guy, I am practically an expert on the male mind, I think. Well, anyway it all comes down to the guys preferences. I for one like a variety of girls from the skinny to the more thicker girls. So I guess it all depends. Oh, for me and I know other guys like me, attraction is the key to opening the door, while the personality is what makes us stay. I dont know if that helped but if it didnt sorry. KennyLy

OpalParticipantNO guy will date you? I find that very hard to believe. I was a size 14 in high school, and there were always guys who wanted to date me; the problem was that I didn’t want to date them. They were the regular guys, and some of them were geeks. There was no way I could be seen with them. I passed them by, waiting for a cute guy to stop chasing beautiful skinny chicks and notice me. It did not happen. Almost everyone tends to be shallow in high school, and unfortunately some people carry it into their adult lives. Try not to fall into the shallow category, and date a guy you normally would not. Not an abusive guy or a freak, but a nice guy who may not have the face of Ricky Martin, but has a good heart. I wish I did.

DeKaParticipantSize 6 is not overweight, I wear a size 5 (I’m still growing though)and I can make myself look fat or thin whenever I want. Try wearing tight shirts or blouses on and around the bellybutton to look thinner. It definetly works for me, the problem is, I feel fat wearing these shirts. The best solution is just to put it on, look in the mirror to see if it looks fine, amd just go and avoid looking in mirrors the whole time.

siouxZQ27879ParticipantI have been on both sides of this issue. I was a thin(ish) smoking teen and young woman who dated all the time, married, divorced – and dieted constantly, scared to look ‘fat’. Until I quit smoking, that is (I was one of those poor unfortunates who really packed on the weight – lots of it – 100 lbs). I was, and still am, fat. BUT, I have never been happier – married to a wonderful man who thinks I am sexy, beautiful and like most of his friends, that sizes 0,1,2,3,etc. are scary! Most men like women with a little meat on their bones and if you meet one that doesn’t? Run and run fast, in the opposite direction – he is not for you because a good man loves you for what is INSIDE and takes whatever is outside. By the way, I am 53 and my husband is a 35 year old (very good-looking) actor – so anything is possible! 🙂
