I find it offensive. People in the media should not assume that the reader, viewer or listener is a member of the “we” group. America is multicultural, with non-whites becoming more and more the majority. We now accept the fact that the reader/viewer is not necessarily male (hence the emergence of “he or she”) or straight (hence “life partner”); let’s accept the fact that the reader/viewer is not necessarity white.

Perhaps a different approach – we SHOULD always assume the racial identity of everyone – IF we assume that identity to be of the Human Race. All other distinctions have scientific components – none of which indicate there is more than ONE race. Interesting to note that even this forum does not list ‘human’ as an option – so you will have to ‘assume’ what my racial identity is…

The reality is that whites are still the overwhelming majority in this country, and the racial ‘standard.’ Minorities are minorities, by definition. There’s no such thing as becoming ‘more and more the majority’ — you are either the majority or you’re not. Blacks and hispanics may be about 25% of the country, but that still leaves the nation roughly 75% white, which is still overwhelming (consider: 3 out of 4). When you are the standard, then things or people that are non-standard have to be denoted. It’s like printer paper… colors are optional.

It seems as though no matter what you say or how you attempt to identify any culture, there are always those who will force an issue of offense and find a reason to feel it abominating. I have also noted that most of these people lack a REAL born intelligence. So the H _ _l with them. Looks like we will have to live with it for few hundred more years until they evolve to a more cultured state.

In Hampton, Virginia, Medic/Firefighters are deliberately withholding and delaying care to minority patients who call 911, causing serious injury and death.
