I know why Muslims go to Mecca, but why do they walk around in the pattern they do at their shrine or holy site? It’s remarkable to see, and the numbers are astounding.

I din’t know why they go to Mecca ( other than the Koran says they should once in their lifetime)and as to the pattern walking—well After reviewing that which has happened since Sept. 11th — I tend to believe that the muslim religion is a front to disguise the terrorist who are trying to rip this country off the face of the earth. I have spent much time on chat rooms with muslims and they all hate jews who ‘control the world’ and the Americans who support the Jewish State.

They walk around Mecca cause it is believed that is what their prophet, Muhammad, did. Kaaba is the holiest shrine in Islam and they reenact the Prophet’s journey to Mecca. It has to be done at a certain time that is why the numbers are so ‘astounding’. It is one of the five Pillars of Islam (along with fasting during Ramadan, prayer, charity and profession of faith), the hajj is required of all who can manage it at least once in a lifetime.

The tradition of the Islamic Hajj is believed to be passed down by Prophet Abraham (may God be pleased with him). He was layed the first stone at Ka’ba and circled the House of Allah in devotion to one god. The Ka’ba has been a house of worship for many religions since then, but was re-claimed by Prophet Muhammed for the people of the Abrahamic tradition, known as Muslims, some 1400 years ago. Muslims from all walks of life follow in this tradition to show our devotion to God, our unity and our equality. During the Hajj all men and women are equal. There are no kings and no paupers. Donning the same humble robe (or for women, any simple clothing), we come together to show our humility. May Allah forgive me if I have erred in my knowledge.

It has to do with the tradition of the Prophet Ibrahim and his wife Hajira. In the Judeo-Chrisitan tradtion it is Abraham and his wife Sarah. THe number of times and the cirular movement are all significant to what the previous Prohpet did as a form of worship before and after building the Kabah (the square structure) which people walk around. THe history is very interesting

this is me again ,i asked my dad and i think what he told me is more what you wnted to know: the holy site is called the ‘ke’ba’ ,above the ke’ba above the seven layers of the sky is ALLAH’s throne ,exactly above it ,and angels are constantly going around it ,we call this motion ‘tawaf’ ,this is the form of angels prayers, and angels are made from light and they never sin so that’s why we circle the ‘ke’ba’ like them as if we’re cicling ALLAH’s throne .also my dad pointed out something very interesting to me , at first i thought he was kidding but i figured he wasn’t : this motion is like the solar system,God created it to be the planets revolving around the sun,and even the atom;electrons are revlving around the nucleus ,and so on you’ll find lots of such motions as signs for us to believe:) hope i’ve answered your question this time, feel free to get back to me:)

i’m a muslim and i haven’t yet gone to mecca and i wish i will soon,it’s where we face when we pray and it’s in our religion that when you go there it has a certain special prayer, that is walking around it seven times ,all the time asking god whatever you want or simply just praising him and asking for his forgivness. it’s a form of prayer that is special to the ‘keeba’ after that you can pray normally there and your prayer is 100 000 times the normal i don’t know if i answered your question but i was just trying to make something clear 🙂

the reason they walk around it is because it is a form of worship, instead of their normal prayer, they are allowed to circle the kaaba 7 times as form of submission to God, simply because there are and were so many millions of people traveling from around the worldto see it since its creation, it is more logical and flows easier then millions of people staying in one place for prayer.

Muslims walk around the Kaabah in Mekka to imitate what prophet Abraham peace be upon him did. They walk bakc an forth in what is called the safa and marwa to imitate what the prophet Mohamed PBUH’s wife Hajar did when in search for water. It was there that the natural spring (zamzam) came out from the ground. Muslims are required to make this pilgrimage one time in their life when they are capable (physically and financially) of doing so. It is one of the five pillars of Islam.
