Why do older people think they can use their age to get what they want from a younger person?

After years of caring, mentoring, teaching and giving of ourselves, our time and our money to the younger generation as well as our elder generation, there is a certain amount of expectancy, and rightly so, that as a person ages and can no longer give, it is time for receiving. Of course, the elder generation we cared for is no longer alive or is infirm – unfortunately, the younger generation to which we devoted our adult lives has no appreciation for the sacrifices made for them, and no feeling of responsibility for their elders. The ‘ME’ generation does not possess the qualities of the Post World War 1 citizenry and feels that nothing is owed and nothing should be done unless there is something in it for themselves. What a sad thing for us, for them and especially for their children, who will never learn the enjoyment of helping for the sake of helping.

I think “older people,” as you phrased it, use their age as an advantage because they are cranky. When arthritis sets in it gets pretty hard not to be.

Because they can; that’s why there are statutory rape laws.

Because they know they are older and they know they can pull stuff on kids who are younger than them. You know the saying goes ‘kids should obey their elders. l think that’s a load of crap, and older people use it to get what they want. They think nowadays that kids are just stupid and never know what’s going on most of the time.
