I belong to a mothers group and my three-year-old son goes into a preschool-type setting during the meeting. One of the caregivers is black. She is a wonderful person who really loves the children. My son, who is very shy and doesn’t speak to people very much, told me he liked this teacher the most, saying she was ‘really nice.’ When I saw her that day I relayed the story, and when I said it out loud, I wondered if I could have offended her. This has been weighing heavily on my heart for several days.
