C19325ParticipantIn the Catholic Church, are widows allowed to become nuns? Can widowers become priests or monks? Is it common for people to turn to a religious life after having experienced life ‘as a regular person’ for quite a while? Or it is always people who join as young adults?

LizParticipantIt’s not uncommon at all for widows and widowers to joing religious orders. In fact the average age of most women joining convents is much higher than it used to be. I think most orders welcome folks with more life experience. Then the decision to enter religious life is a more mature one.

JackMemberI don’t know if it varies or isn’t accurate or whatnot, but I saw on television the story of three nuns who joined the convent after they already had children. I don’t think a widow would be much different.
