Kathy-CParticipantI am a “normal”-looking person who has a life-threatening, debilitating, painful illness. I often use my handicapped parking decal. Since I look so normal and healthy, people are very mean to me when they see me use the special parking spot. Why?

Meg X.ParticipantI would never look at a normal-looking person any differently if they parked there, unless maybe they didn’t have the decal thingy. But that’s another story. Most people today are highly critical and judgmental. They’re upset they have to park 50 blocks away and that you get to park up front. They take a look at you and assume you arent that handicapped because you aren’t missing an arm or bleeding half to death. You catch my drift, though. It’s pure jealousy.

OrlandParticipantI am a parapalegic and use crutches and a wheelchair. A while back my car was broken into, and they stole my placecard. I didn’t get another one for about a month, and until I would unload my wheelchair out, people would give me the same dirty looks. It’s actually good, because they are just looking out for people with disabilities. I have much respect for those who don’t even need the parking but still give dirty looks.
