Angela B.ParticipantEvery time I read something in the news about a mother, or father, killing their kids in some horrific way – drowning, or shooting, or whatever – I struggle with similar thoughts myself. I’ll be in the kitchen making a meal, and I’ll reach for a knife from the block and suddenly I’ll have this whole series of thoughts involving me taking the knife and doing in my kids. I never act on it, obviously. But I’m not sure I know how wide the barrier is between someone having these random, abhorrent thoughts, and someone acting on them? Do other people have similar experiences? It’s very disconcerting. Significantly, the incidence increases sharply anytime I see such a story in the news, and tapers to nearly nothing in between times.
