Why do many blacks have such large lips?

One big exception is those darn supermodels; where do they find them, anyway? George W. Bush, who has no lips, looks like most white people I’ve seen.

I have not read about or been told of an evolutionary or adaptive purpose.I do know that such traits are not confined to them. However you should know that such physical fullness (buttocks, chests, lips, bellies) are very desirable traits among many cultures, including many Western ones. (incl. the U.S.) They symbolize youth, vitality, fertility, fitness, masculinity, femininity, etc.

I’m sure someone with a medical/anthropolgy background could give us an academic answer. But, keep in mind the majority of us who participate are not experts in any particular discipline. We are regular folk who have some innocuous, sometimes silly questions. Personally, I’d like to know why this question is being asked again. I’d like to know what difference does it make that blacks have larger lips than whites. Asking me about my lips, hair texture, muscular structure often times comes off silly to me. But, we are curious and we are different. Still, I’ve never been compelled to ask someone white why they’re eyes are blue, why they burn easily in the sun, or why they have straight hair. Folks just are, period. Many blacks have full lips. Well, Ethopians generally have thin lips and noses. Same for Egytians. The people of Orrissi have straight black hair and keen features, and black skin. Why we are so preoccupied with characteristics is a question I’d like answered more than why so and so has so and so difference in their physical appearance.

In comparison to what? I assume you mean in comparison to Caucasion lip size. The reverse can be asked then: Why do Caucasions have such thin lips? The way you stated your question suggests you perceive this as a negative trait among black people. Why must every minority race be compared to the Caucasion race? Who made Caucasions the ruler to which all other races must be measured by? Also, would having a satisfactory, factual answer to your question make the large lips of black people more acceptable in your eyes? All races have their physical differences. I am sure that throughout the centuries we developed these differences for survival in our climates, as I am also sure that God made differences to provide for variety. Variety is the spice of life. Therefore, if you find the large lips of black people unattractive, you have a whole array of other thin-lipped people to choose from.

If you are using white lips as a standard, one could ask why many whites seem to have no lips at all. It could indeed be that since we all are out of Africa, fuller lips, obviously fuller than your standard, are in fact the norm. In that case, ‘Why do many whites have such abnormally thin to nonexistent lips’ becomes the more appropriate question. Right?

A lot of whites have features I find unique to them as well: Larger, bony noses; thin necks, big ears.. Right now, you’re probably saying, “Hey, we don’t all have those features.” Well, guess what? We don’t, either. Does Colin Powell have large lips? Does Kobe Bryant have a broad, flat nose? C’mon, look around.

I didn’t pose these questions to go tit for tat, or to offend, but to make the point that each race has its own qualities and physical features. I want to know what your intent was in asking this question. I believe it was malicious. I believe it was asked to poke fun at a person’s physical features – something we have no control over nor would want to change because it defines who we are. Does diversity and difference frighten you that much?

Why does it make such an impact on most whites? I don’t hear of any other races asking something as stupid as that. I think that question was to TRY and say we are abnormal compared to you(WHITES). Let me clerify something for you. We(blacks) are normal and you are abnormal. Thats why white women try to be like us: stong minded, beautiful, and full of color. Why do white women and men burn thier bodies to tan to that forbidden color of? TO BE NORMAL. Why do white women pay to have thier lips injected? TO BE NORMAL. Funny, If most white were honest they would prefer to have larger lips. And last but not least, why the new erra is not skinny anymore, but more curvy and fuller(I didn’t say fat) TO BE NORMAL. Yes I am defending my black race like most whites and other ethnic groups do when they feel insulted. I think your question was to pick fun or to TRY and mock us, but you know what. Whites have tried to cut our spirit for years since slavery. Didn’t work then and it can’t work now. That’s what you are afraid of the strenght of a black man or black women. We don’t break easily. Again, here is your question; Why do black people have such large lips? BECAUSE WE ARE NORMAL. Thats why white men have been loving us for years on the downlow or shall I say raping us. We were taboo then but desireable with the same big lips, big butts and full breast that so many are trying to aquire now. I don’t care about interracial dating, because the two have always and will always have a desire for each other. Think back or shall I say ask you grandparents or great grandparents if they heard of a white women sneaking into slave quarters to try out the well endowed salvage or the black man sneaking into slave quarter to be with the very vivacious, thick lip, big butt whore. I use those words because thats the way things were viewed. In closing, Get over the lip thing. Okay? The more you pick out what you consider flaws the more whe accent them, becuase surely it works for us and is something that you want but can’t have. So keep leting us know what is PERFECT.
