BillMemberI would like to know how women feel about Who Wants to Marry a Millionaire, the FOX network show where women competed to marry a “multi-millionaire.” It seems that the more things change, the more they stay the same.

Jacqueline-C21005ParticipantWho Wants to Marry a Millionare? is the stupidest thing I have seen on TV in awhile, but I am not surprised by it. A show like that is very cheap to produce when compared with dramas and sitcoms. And its all about money anyway, right? That is evidenced by the number of women – and their families that came to support them – that showed up hoping to be picked to marry some stranger who they knew nothing about except that he had money.

CrystalMemberThat particular show elicited howls of contempt from me, my female friends and women I know from work and online communities. MOST women still are more interested in a man’s character than his wallet. However, that kind of outlook does not generate publicity or ratings. Tacky, outrageous behavior will always generate more notice than ‘normal’ – anyone who watches Jerry Springer can tell you that. Think of ‘Who Wants To Marry A Millionaire’ as more of a circus/publicity stunt than an insight into your average woman.
