I came to the United States from Japan and have wondered why Americans use measurements such as the mile, pound and gallon. Is it true that after World War II, Americans recommended the Japanese use measurements such as the meter, gram and liter? If so, why?

Our education system gave it a shot for a short while. But found that trying to convert what we already have and use is too complicated. Even trying to teach us was a blunder because the teachers were as confused as much as the students. What it boils down to is that you can’t teach an old dog new tricks. I wish we would follow through and convert to metric. I can visualize what 10cm is as apposed to what is 3/64
