CynthiaC-the-Petite-ActivistParticipantAs a petite activist and blogger (http://shorty-stories.blogspot.com), I’ve always wondered why the mainstream fashion media have never really promoted non-standard sized designers (unless she is a celebrity, and even then, it’s rare), even in size diversity issues. Is it because they believe that these clothes, especially those for the petite market just don’t look as good in print, because the model isn’t tall and skinny (it really isn’t likely that a petite designer will be okay with magazines using 5’9 models for his/her clothes. The length just wouldn’t look right)? Or is it because they (mistakenly) believe that it’s too niche a market (between 40% and 60% of women can fit into petite sizes, for example)? Because personally, I don’t think this lack of attention is doing any good for these designers any good, nor is it doing any good for the diversity of the ‘standard of beauty’.
