S29531ParticipantI work as a cashier in a grocery store. Why do customers toss their money at me, put it on the counter, drop it on the conveyor belt (where it gets eaten) … everywhere except in my outstretched hand, then hold their hands out for their change? And why do they make derogatory comments about the customer I am waiting on (their speed, what they buy, etc.) and then look at me as if I should laugh with them? I could go on, but the list is endless.

Jen30990ParticipantI do not envy you. I do agree that we (the consumer) frequently act inappropriately and then expect to be treated fairly. You sound so frustrated; perhaps you could coin a few phrases to help you in trying moments. If a customer wants to gripe about another customer, you might try, “I don’t mind, after all they help pay my salary just like you do.” As for the money thing, making eye contact prior to the exchange of money may help; of course, nothing will help some people, including me on a bad day. On behalf of customers everywhere – I am sorry.

Christopher D.MemberWhen I worked as a cashier I did not tolerate rudeness. If the customer grabbed, I’d say “No grabbing” just loud enough for everyone in the line to hear. Rude customers knew to avoid my line next time they came in to shop.

kaylaParticipantI don’t not envy you I totally agree I get mad to the people think that its funny to make remarks about the customer that you are waiting on. I use to work in a fast food restaurant. The people just threw the money at me it fell on the floor and in the garbage. It drove me nuts knowing that the people would make comments about the person you are waiting on and they talk about them and expect you to say or laugh with them because they said something way outta line. Believe that it’s rude and not right.

raenMemberI find that behavior rude and an attempt to be demeaning to the cashier as if they are beneath us.Some people treat service people aas if they were slaves and as another customer I am embarrased by it.
