Elsa T.ParticipantI am no biologist, but from what I´ve heard (from a real biologist), the reason men have nipples is simple: When the embryo of a human baby is developed, it dosn´t have a specific gender. The fetus can become either male or female, and the nipples simply are ‘already’ there, just in case the baby turns out to be a girl.

Marc J.ParticipantA fetus can not go either way. The nipples are there becuase men have all of the physical parts required to lactate. Some medication, particulry those used to treat psych disorders can cause men to lactate. I have seen it in person. We still make fun of him. Basicly it is hormones that cause women to grow lager breasts or spur the glands that produce milk in gear. Really no evolutionary reason for men to be prefered without them since it does not hinder use and lets face it a man with out nipples would look weird.

J-Bartholoma19692ParticipantThe reason men have nipples is due to genetics. Men have the genes for nipples, and as mentioned above, have them in the embryonic stages. If men didn’t have nipples, they might not count as a species due to the fact that their daughters would have a chance of not having nipples, thus not being able to breast feed their children.
