As a young black woman (17 to be exact) why do Caucasian and Asian people always act so suprised when they find that I can speak proper english and am a sophomore in college? Why do they also make the comment ‘You’re not like MOST black people!’ and get this look of awe on their face? How would they like it if I said ‘Wow! You don’t smell like a dog at all!’? Also, why do Asians treat me like a frickin’ novelty because I speak Korean? It’s not a dead language you know. And why do they then call other people over like I’m some freak show? Maybe I’m being touchy but I DON’T like how people assume that just because of my race I must be a stupid, weed smoking, crack whore.
