Why do some men yell crude things at women in public? (Others on this site have identified this behavior with certain ethnic groups, but that hasn’t been my experience at all.) What is the best way to discourage catcalling? I have been told that women should take this kind of attention as a compliment, but so much of it seems to have a hostile, almost threatening edge.
