Why are straight people interested in what lesbigay/transgender folks do in bed? As a bisexual woman, I get lots of leers and intrusive questions from straight folks. Do straight people have bad sex lives? Are straight people looking for ideas?

I think it’s to do with the fascination of something that isn’t perceived as ‘ordinary’. It may be the case that straight people ARE looking for ideas. People who have been married for several years may get pretty bored with the traditional ‘missionary position’ and want to try something new. However, it doesn’t give anyone the right to be rude or intrusive.

i believe that some people who do not know much about people who chose to be with the same sex don’t really understand. but if people ask you, if you feel comfortable enough with your sexulity then you shouldn’t really worry about it. as long as you are satisfied then that is all that matters. some people don’t know. not everyone knows everything, so the people who do know need to shed some light on those who don’t know. me, personally, i don’t care, i am a straight woman, and i am going to stay that way, but that is me, do what you like.

I think people have a natural curiosity about sex. This is for most people an unexplored area. In all things that are not understood, the two reactions that people have are fear and curiosity. People seek both to understand and denigrate in roughly equal measure, hence the leering and intrusive questions.

To most (open-minded, non-moralist) straight people, GLBT folks are something of sexual ‘adventurers’ — and as with most other cultural things, tend to push the envelope. Witness nipple piercings. Once kinky, now mainstream. Most straight men would never admit that they enjoy a little prostate massage during oral sex and most straight women would probably never think of it if they didn’t ask a gay man how to give the ultimate oral performance.
