Meggy S.ParticipantI have always wanted to know if having a full sex change from male to female affects the impact of achieving a fullfilling sex life. Do people who have done this experience the same sensation that was experienced before?

HarryMemberI haven’t had this experience because I was born female and now sort of live as a male. However, from friends and information I’ve picked up over the years, I’d say it varies. Not the sort of clear answer you wanted, I suppose. I do know that you have to sign a form when you go for ‘the surgey’ stating that you understand that you may lose sensation partially or totally. Having said that, techniques have improved over time, and I think more operations are ‘successful’ than before.
On a more positive note, a lot of women are very happy with their new genitals and say they can experience orgasm from penetration alone. This is because the penis is inverted to make the vagina and so is actually more sensitive than a genetic female’s. Conversely, some transwomen report orgasm from clitoral simulation, but I think the constructed clitoris is not as sensitive as a genetic female’s because the nerve endings are not all concentrated there – they are spread throughout the surface of the previous penis and obviously near the top of the vagina where the glans tissue is situated.
Most people have a fulfilling sex life in whatever form they choose. They also report having more ‘internal’ orgasms than previously, more long-lasting and intense. I guess if you always believed yourself to be female, finally having a vagina would improve your sex life, general well-being and self-esteem.
