I am a white female (Irish) who was born and raised in Detroit and the suburbs surrounding Detroit. I work with professionals, and all of my co-workers are college educated (it’s a requirement) and African American. I would like to know why many of them say ‘axe’ instead of ‘ask’. I know that they know the correct pronunciation and can say the word properly, so I’m just wondering why they always say it incorrectly.
