This has been a big topic for a long time and I not only want to voice my opinion but ask questions as well. My opinion is this. As far as the state goes, marriage is recognized as a business agreement or legal contract if you will. It does not see it as spiritual union-a POV of a church. So in essence, the gov’t is telling the gay population who they can and cannot enter a business contract with. Now, exactly what are the fears that gov’t officials foresee in allowing the marriages. They cannot use the church as a foundation as they must separate church and state. What are they affraid of. Gay men and women will still work, raise families, pay taxes and be an important contributor to our society. Maybe I missed something, but other than partners being legally protected, what will change?
