I was born in Puerto Rico, speak and understand spanish, and have a Puerto Rican mother and sister. My father is 100% Italian and has lived in New Jersey most of his life. After my birth, my family moved to New Jersey. Recently, I have found that whenever i try to relate to any Puerto Ricans, they give me the cold shoulder. I do not look very Puerto Rican and do not have a hispanic accent at all. Why do people who share a similar background as myself dismiss me as something other than what I am?
