Essentially, you have to examine the Sabbath commandment. It was given to the nation of Isreal as part of their Covenant with God as His chosen nation. When Jesus, the Messiah, came to earth, he was rejected by Israel – the Covenant was broken. Paul refers to te Law Covenant as ‘a tutor leading to Christ.’ (Galatians 3:24) Christ also spoke of establishing a different covenant with his followers (Luke 22:29), which Paul calls the ‘New Covenant.’ As Christians, we are not under the Jewish Law Covenant. We do not hold any of the other laws of this agreement, such as animal sacrafice, or the ‘unclean’ designations, or circumsicion. Yet, many Christians feel obliged to hold onto pieces of the Law. The founding fathers of Christianity addressed this very issue when some in the congregations were preaching of the necessity for circumsicion. Acts chapter 15 tells of the decision handed down from the apostles and older men. Christians are not under the old Law. So, we are not bound by God to observe a Sabbath. The day(s) on which we choose to gather for formal worship are not important. The important thing is that we do so. In this country, it just so happens that Sunday is the most convenient day for most to attend.
