Jake H.MemberOn TV and in the street I hear fanatical Protestant Christians who tend to have little compassion for the poor, support the death penalty and believe Muslims are evil and that killing them wouldn’t be a bad thing. I even heard a Protestant preacher on TV say we should ‘drop the holy bomb on the Middle East’. What is wrong with them?

Dan-M28672ParticipantYou have answered your own question. You’re hearing fanatic Protestants, not mainstream Protestants. There are plenty of Protestants who care for the poor, oppose the state killing, oppose war, and are open and accepting of all. You’re most likely hearing right-wing Evangelicals like Southern Baptists or Pentecostals. I would suggest seeking out United Methodists, Episcopalians, United Church of Christ, or any of several other Protestant denominations.

Ann L. LowensteinParticipantI realize your teachers taught you opinions are icky-poo-poo and badder-boobles if they don’t align with the current ‘correct-think’, but everybody in this country is still allowed to have ones which don’t agree with yours. If you don’t agree with their OPINIONS, bully for you, but you sound suspiciously like you want to force them to have YOUR opinion about everything. Can you say ‘Totalitarian Communist’?

J-Bartholoma28704ParticipantDon’t just limit it to Protestants, fanatic Catholics do similar things. And don’t forget what the Pope said about Islam…

ChrisDMemberI do not think the question was one of a misalignment to current “correct-think”, as you put it. I think the question was one of misalignment to the compassion taught by Jesus Christ and what most people of the Christian faith hold as the highest of Christian ideals. Having being a former Christian and married currently to a Christian, we often wonder the same thing.
