NathanParticipantYeah pal, but that’s in America. In the UK we get far less of this and black women’s ads frequently state a desire to meet white men – especially in London, but then again 40% of black males in the UK are seeing someone white and only 20% of black females are seeing someone white, this leaves spares – hence they look out for white men.

Michelle20549ParticipantRace is just another aspect of one’s looks. There is nothing wrong with having a preference in the appearance, religion, political alliance or education level of someone we wish to date. If you disagree, I have an experiment for you. Next time you pick up the personals, look again at the ads for men seeking women. Notice something? “Slender” or “weight proportionate only need apply.” Some men’s ads actually have weight ranges that they expect from respondents. Are you going to skewer these guys? I don’t. Any heavy woman can then avoid an awkward, humiliating meeting by the advertiser being upfront with his expectations.
Let me reflect your questions back to you: “Do men feel heavy or fat women are not good enough for them? Is this some sort of subconscious bias?” It’s okay to have preferences in skin color or weight or whatever. Knowing what you want is part of being an adult.

Original-PosterParticipantHi, Michelle. You say that race is just another aspect of physical appearance — so if you say ‘I think black men are just ugly,’ then that would be ok for you? What if a white woman said, ‘I won’t date black men because they remind me of monkeys’? — would you tolerate that? How about: ‘I prefer white guys because they have that nice Aryan look; blonde hair, blue eyes, which I believe is superior to those other lesser men’? I fail to see the difference between that example and your reasoning. You are not looking at the *cause* of your preferences. In regards to your ‘thin female’ test, are white males the only ones who consistently ask for slender women? Many races of men ask for slender women, but it appears that white females, more than any other, consistently ask for white males. That goes back to the original question, which still is unanswered — why do white females, more than any other, consistently date only their own race?

Madeleine22301ParticipantWhat you said is very offensive. You should consider other people’s feelings instead of implying that the white race is superior.

KimMemberI think I am fairly safe in speaking for most women, no matter what ‘color,’ In saying that we don’t place personal ads to seek a mate with whom to have children.
