Why do farmers always seem to leave one large tree in the middle of their plowed fields? Is it for navigational reasons, or a shady place to have lunch on hot days in the crops?

I have read that the lone tree ln the middle of the field may have been the result of farmers using block and tackle to pull tree stumps. They used adjacent trees to hook the block and tackle to. When they got down to one tree, there was no adjacent tree to use, so they just had to leave it.
