MarynParticipantI am five months’ pregnant, and every time I have an orgasm, my baby becomes very hard, like a ball. Is this normal or dangerous?

Catherine32431ParticipantI had the best orgasms of my life when I was pregnant, and my uterus (not the baby, it is protected by amniotic fluid) contracted very hard every time. However, you should find a doctor to whom you can openly talk, because at five months, you will have so many more questions and concerns before you deliver. They’ve seen and heard everything, so don’t worry.

AngelaParticipantI have noticed that, too, though I don’t know the answer. I believe it is caused by your uterine muscles tightening up. I have heard that sex is safe during pregnancy, so I’m not too terribly worried about it. I scares me a little because it feels so weird. Maybe you should ask your doctor. I would ask mine, but I’m too embarrassed.

ShannonParticipantYour baby isn’t what is getting hard. It is your uterus, the organ your baby is in. It may contract when you have an orgasm, which is totally normal. Unless you have severe cramping or bleeding during or after sex, you probably have nothing to worry about. Are you seeing a doctor? Ask him or her just to make sure that everything is OK. My son is four months old, so I was pregnant not too long ago, and my tummy got rock-hard after I had sex.

Jeanine FlynnParticipantYour baby ‘curls’ because of the uterine contractions you have during orgasm. You just feel the hardness of your uterus. The baby is fine. Just make sure to check with your OB/GYN about proper positioning, etc. during intercourse in your third trimester. You want to be safe. Have fun!

JessicaParticipantI think this is something you ought to talk to a doctor about, though I’ve always heard that sex up until delivery (including orgasm) was OK as long as it remained comfortable for the woman.

StefanieParticipantYou are most likely not feeling your baby harden up into a ball; it is your uterus, which is a large muscle (and getting larger) that normally contracts in some fashion during an orgasmic experience. Sex will not hurt your baby, but if you have concerns, talk to your medical provider.

Tanya S.ParticipantSex often causes contraction so beware they can send you into a false labor or even early labor, so you should be cautious if you are a high risk pregnancy. I am not sure but some contractions can be caused by the semen so it might be good to practice the rhythm method.

Dina M.ParticipantMany women use sex to induce labor. It’s not dangerous to have sex before your due date and through-out your pregnancy. But having more sex near the end of the pregnancy can help speed up the process and help to induce labor.
