Rick29895ParticipantWhat stops guys at nudist colonies and nude beaches from getting erections all the time?

P.J.ParticipantMost guys are too nervous to get an erection when they first go out to a nudist beach. Also, once we realize that courtesy requires we keep control, it’s just a matter of concentrating on remaining calm. And just in case, most people keep a towel with them at all times.

H.MemberThe reason men do not become sexually aroused at nude beaches, or nudist colonies, is that they are exposed to the nudity on a regular basis. That would be the basic and short answer. However, this is assuming all men are so sexually immature that they would become aroused at the mere sight of a nude woman. Men who do become aroused at the sight of a nude woman are probably under-sexed or over-sexed. In other words, not really mature sexually and not well-balanced enough mentally, physically or emotionally to handle seeing a nude woman. There is a misconception that men are less capable of handling their sexual desires than women. Men want women to believe that, but it is not valid. It gives men an excuse when they’ve behaved badly. Women of old, and of modern times, buy into this, and validate the excuse.

Jonah-SParticipantI thought that way too until I started going to the nude beach. It is not sexual at all, even though I was surrounded by some very attractive women. ‘Staring’ is very uncool – arousal is not all visual, I think, because I did not get an erection until I was there once with my girlfriend – when I saw her nude that was a different story and I had to go into the water for a while. Give it a try; you’ll be surprised at how liberating it is (wear sunscreen everywhere, though).

Marc J.ParticipantI disagree that only immature males get an erection when looking at a woman. I have a penis and know that sometimes we get an erection for no damn good reason. We do not have complete control, nor do we have the privilege that women possess of having subtle signals of sexual arousal. If female nudity is a rarity, which it is for most men, and you find women attractive, you are always going to sexualize it. If it is more commonplace, then sexualizing female nudity may be more conditional. If I spend an evening doing a sketch of a human nude, I am not going to have an erection, at least not for long. But that does not mean that when I come home and find my girlfriend nude in the bedroom changing that I am not going to be turned on, at least a little.

MikeParticipantI frequent the nude beaches in California on a regular basis and have many friends who are nudists. We see nothing sexual about being nude. To us, it’s just not having any clothes on and means nothing else. It’s enjoying the sun, surf and sand au naturel. We were given beautiful bodies by our maker, so why be ashamed, no matter what your size, shape or orientation? (Just because you have to be naked to have sex, does it mean every time you get naked you need to have sex?) But, even among long-time nudists the occasional erection does pop up for whatever reason – once again, nothing to be ashamed of – it’s totally natural. Any virile male will tell you erections can happen for no reason whatsoever (most males experience the very common occurance known as ‘morning wood’ in their sexually peak years of 15-35). If one finds oneself ‘standing tall’ on the beach, etiquette says to lie on one’s stomach until the erection subsides, mostly out of consideration for many of the families with children who frequent nude beaches.
On any nude beach you will get the occasional pervert walking around ‘tall and proud’ thinking he’s going to get sex by flaunting his shortcomings. As these types tend to endanger the status of the beach remaining clothing-optional, they are told to take it elsewhere by the beach regulars.

Dan27135ParticipantJust an aside: there is no off switch! Nor is there an on switch. It does what it wants to.

Mark22083ParticipantIt has to do with a person’s comfort level. Once a person is at ease and no longer thinking about it, it no longer becomes an issue.
