Why is it that so many people do not know how much vacation time they have left at the place where they work? I love my work and I am very good at what I do, but I also value my time away from the office and I like to be able to plan getaways, days off for religious observance, or just the occasional quiet day at home. Yet most of the people I’ve ever worked with seem to have only a vague idea of how much time off they have left at any given time, and are constantly changing the vacation plans they do have. Most intriguing of all, the people who are clueless about their own vacation time often dislike their jobs as well. Wouldn’t you think that someone who hates their job would be even more solicitous of their time off than someone (such as me) who enjoys their job? By the way, I do not take sick time unless I am actually too sick to go to work, which might be two or three days a year at the most.
