DavidParticipantWhy do a lot of people who use public toilets not flush them? I see guys do this all the time, and on a couple occasions when I’ve had to clean a ladies room at work, I noticed that some girls don’t flush, either. These people probably wouldn’t dream of having an unflushed toilet in their homes, so why are they being so lazy and immature in public stalls?

Augustine23631ParticipantSome of these people are just plain lazy or contemptuous of their surroundings (‘it’s not mine so let someone else flush it’), and I would be willing to bet these people do not wash their hands, either. However, others may be unwilling to touch the handle because it’s dirty. When I use a public restroom, I gently nudge the handle down with my shoe heel (toilet) or my elbow (urinal). I wouldn’t be so sure that lazy people keep their toilets at home all that clean, either.

Madinat22303ParticipantSome people DO leave toilets unflushed in their homes – and dorms, too. Dorms didn’t surprise me, but when I woke up this morning and went to the bathroom, there it was: the unflushed toilet. This isn’t the first time, either. I just have disgusting roomates. Eww!

Jennifer30893ParticipantI have noticed that in the store where I work. Many women go into the fitting rooms and just throw clothes around and leave them on the floor. I think they do that because they know someone else is going to clean up after them and they don’t have to do it.

KellyMemberI too am grossed out by this habit. In fact I recently posted a similar question to the ladies in the lockerroom at my gym. I know sometimes toilets are temperamental and they need to be flushed twice. I think sometimes ladies are just stupid about this basic toilet fact. I also don’t know how they can use the toilet and just urinate all over the seat. It would seem if all the hypochondriacs in the world would just get over it and it every one extended a little comon courtesy when using the toilets the status of public restroom cleanliness would be a much smaller issue. My husband always says they should invent a public restroom that when you leave, seals itself up and then gets a through hosedown before the next user gets in.

CristinaParticipantMany people prefer not to flush, especially when it is a public toilet, to avoid be contaminated by germs and bacteria when they touch the bottom, door, or anything from the toilet.
