Why is it that a lot of parents act like they’ve performed some kind of miracle simply by having kids? I realize that bringing a new life into the world can be a profound experience, but millions of people do it every day, and the attitude I get from a lot of my friends who have kids is that they have done something extra-special and should be given special recognition for it or something. A friend even laughed at me when I said that my husband and I felt our dog was part of our ‘family’. Her response was that having a dog was NOTHING like having a child. I obviously realize this, but I don’t think it was appropriate for her to scoff at me or think she’s better than me just because she has kids.
