PeterParticipantIt has been my recent observation that a higher percentage of the African American population is homosexual. Are there numbers to support this? And if there are, why is this so?

LatishaParticipantAre you just being biased and seeing what you want to believe? Your observation is incorrect. Statistics most likely will always support the biased notion that blacks have a higher percentage in a vice or moral issue than whites or any other group. But there is no proper way to even obtain numbers on this. Those who are closted will never say, as well as those in denial who won’t report. Don’t even worry about it. What does it matter anyways?

Jordan28782ParticipantGoing strictly by what you see, it’s understandable that you would think that there is a higher percentage of black gay men, but it’s extremely unlikely that there is really a significant difference. To my knowledge, most ‘in-the-closet’ gay men have been white. Speaking in a sense of percentages, the actual statistics are probably extremely close to each other, but there is no real way of being able to tell as long as there is such a large number of gay men in the closet or in denial.

DennisParticipantI can understand the question. In recent years, the down low thing has gotten lots of media coverage. Now there is more knowledge about the DL thing. Because it is now an open secret, it looks like there are more. I do not think that this is true.

AlmaParticipantif it doesn’t matter, what did you comment on it? A secondary issue to this question is the complaint that many black women espouse that there are not enough available black men who have jobs and are not in jail….did this original question bother you for that reason???
