Rick-A29754ParticipantThe Christian church sends out many missionaries each year to different countries. Do other religions (such as Hinduism or Islam) send out missionaries? If so, do they send them here?

Nehal P.ParticipantI haven’t heard of Hindu or Muslim missionaries, but I know that one cannot convert to Hinduism. It is believed that you are either born a Hindu or you are not. I think you can adopt Hindu beliefs but you cannot become a proper Hindu. So I strongly doubt there are any Hindu missionaries but have no idea about Muslim missionaries.

STMarbanParticipantHinduism in principle does not differentiate between religions. A Christian or Muslim or Jew or rationalist can be called a Hindu if he believes in his God or principles with his full consciousness. Across India, different people worship thousands of gods, and their rituals are different. Still, everybody feels united as Hindus. Even when Muslims and Christians arrived for the first time, Hindus did not think of these as a different religion concept.

Hayat R.MemberThere are Muslim missionairies, but as there is no central authority in Islam like that in Catholicism, Mormonism, Jehova’s Witnessism and others, it is not a far reaching organisation. There is the ‘Tableeghi Jamaat’, a group of Muslims whose main purpose is to call others to Islam, and a few others. The majority of these groups are based in mosques and aid those who come seeking Islam and also give equal attention to guiding back lost or uninformed Muslims. Give us some credit for not being the annoying, door-knocking, pamphlet pushing, ‘Good news’ stuffing types 🙂
