The recent MTV VMA awards showed an African American presenter wearing a T-shirt that said ‘New Negro.’ As a white viewer (age 47), I wasn’t sure how to take this – haven’t heard the term ‘negro’ in ages and figure there’s something new to learn. Is this becoming an acceptable term? If so, only by select ethnic groups?
