Can a person who is baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses be disfellowshipped for marrying a person who is not one of Jehovah’s Witnesses?

If you are a Jehovah’s Witness, why not ask another Jehovah’s Witness? Is there a leader at your church/worship place?

Hello, S.D. It’s not likely for one of Jehovah’s Witnesses to be disfellowshipped for marrying outside of the faith. We are, however, encouraged to use the Bible as a guide when we make serious decisions such as choosing a marriage mate. The bible let’s us know that when we do marry that it should be only in the Lord. Also, we have the many instances of God’s servants in the past who made it a custom to marry those who did not serve Him. Think of the Israelites who were lured into false religion and other things that drew them away from true worship. This, in turn, caused them to lose Jehovah’s favor. These can serve as examples to us so that we can make wiser dicisions than those who walked before us! Jehovah is merciful and understands what it is that we need, as well as what’s best for us. Psalms 145: 16 says: ‘You are opening your hand and satisfying the desire of every living thing.’ Certainly, he will provide for those desirous of marriage according to his will! Warm Christian Love Holly

No. However, dating someone who is not a Witness often leads to situations that can result in disfellowshipping. The most obvious is sexual relations. Very few people in the world today believe in waiting for marriage. In fact, most people would never marry someone they haven’t slept with. This can put a lot of pressure on the Witness who wants to remain clean in Jehovah’s eyes.

from what I understand…no. it’s not recommeded, but it is allowed. i think it’s best not to though, because think of the future children. most likely a Witness would want their kids to be raised as Witnesses, and that would be difficult if one had an unbelieving mate.

A baptized witness can’t be disfellowshipped for marrying an unbeliever, as long as no sin was committed before the marriage – such as premarital sex. The only thing is, you can’t be married in a Kingdom Hall. I’m in a situation in which I’m in love with someone who’s not a Witness. I always wanted to find a Witness to marry, but that’s not how things have worked out.
