R-Baldwin28635ParticipantDo things really change as much as people say they do after marriage or is that just what people say to scare younger people who aren’t married yet?

MaraParticipantit really depends on the relationship you have before you tie the knot. If you already live together and have had all “the conversations” about money, children, religion, the future, etc…no, it doesn’t really change. If you are maintiaining seperate residences, seperate bank accounts, and nominal seperate lives…sure, I suppose it would.

SDMemberI don’t think they do other than knowing that it’s not so simple for one of the parties to bail out without some serious financial and legal hassles. It’s kind of like making a cake. It’s the ingredients, not the oven, that make the cake good. It’s the people, not the marriage ceremony or license, that make the marriage.

DotParticipantIt’s kids that change the relationship, whether you’re married or not. The certificate doesn’t do anything unless you’re marrying a foreign national whose immigration status would then change. Still, until you have a kid it’s just like living together.
