Velma-EParticipantI’m a black woman, and I have always wondered: Why is it that every time a black person walks by a person of a different race who is inside a car, the person quickly locks the doors? Is it that they think we are going to rob them or do some type of harm to them?

David FelkerParticipantI would believe it is because of the big difference in the high percentage of blacks that commit violent crime. When you have 33% of the black male population either in jail, or have been in the criminal court system for some crime or the other, one tends to look at the averages. I know that more whites commit crime, but its in the laws of averages that 1/3 of the time you come across a black man he is, or was a criminal. Just for the sake of arguement, I’ve seen a very large, tough looking, black man lock his doors when approached by a black at an intersection. Do you suppose he was a racist? No, he was just being honest.
