Please tell me why the determined ignorance about and derogation of this story by African Americans? First, originally the story was about an Asian Indian child (there are no tigers in Africa.) Second, the child in the story demonstrates responsibility (he is determined to complete his errand), bravery (he faces the tigers), and ingenuity (he tricks the tigers into running around the tree until they turn into butter.) So it seems to me this is a story celebrating whatever race, ethnicity or nationality the protagonist might belong to – or maybe just the responsibility, bravery and cleverness of an individual child.
