I’ve noticed that many Latino parents have the ears of their toddler daughters pierced. This practice doesn’t seem as common among non-Latinos. What is the reason behind this custom/practice? Why do Latinos feel the need to needlessly alter the bodies of their children? Why not let the girls grow up and decide for themselves whether or not to get their ears pierced?
