I saw a lot of responses on my last question regarding the practice of some Indians not using deodorant. Many mentioned spicy food being the culprit. While I understand that curries and spicy foods can cause odors to be emitted from the skin, the odor I was referring to was more of an underarm smell. I am still wondering a few things: is the underarm odor not noticable to the person? Is it strictly habit or common practice in India not to wear deodorant, or is there a reason for not wearing deodorant? While in the U.S., are they not aware they should be using it (or do not care)? For those who came here with that practice, did someone mention it to you when you moved here? Or did you realize the odor and just decide to start using it yourself? As Indians/Hindus, would you mention it to others who may not smell so good?
