Labels: Necessary or Retroactive?

    Race seems to only be a reality because of linguistics. We know that ‘white,’ ‘black,’ or whatever is really only a subjective label placed on people because of the melanin in their skin. Often, it seems to me like things would be better if we totally did away with these labels. However, I know race is based on ethinicity, which is a reality. Also, race has become such a huge part of our world that it seems impossible to disregard it. Same goes for sexual orientation. What do you think?
