DavidParticipantWhy is it that Jews are willing to side with leftist leaning political groups that lobby against Israel and carry significant amounts of anti-Jewish rhetoric? The Pacifica Radio show ‘Flashpoints’ talks almost exclusively about nazi-like Jews in Palestine. This show is hosted by Jewish man, Dennis Bernstein. Also, why are Jews willing to side with the rightist leaning political groups that support Israel, but generally are religious fanatics that think most of the Jews are evil? Why are these questions not discussed openly by the media and by prominent Jews?

ShirleyAveryParticipantAmerican Jews who feel very strongly about Israel, emmigrate there. Some have dual citizenship. As for the rest of us, it’s a matter of degree and not just a matter of loyalty. You have to understand that during the Holocaust, few countries would give refuge to persecuted Jews. Consequently, 6 million Jews were unable to escape and were slaughtered in Europe. Israel was established in part to be a safe haven for Jews around the world. It’s doubtful that the U.S. and Israel would become enemies since Israel is the only freely elected democracy in the middle east as opposed to Arab dictatorships. Just Curious

DotParticipantTell me that they hate their government’s policies. Israelis are forced to live with the daily violence, insecurity and international scorn cause by the decisions of a few elite Knesset members. Sounds familiar to any of us who’ve lived in the U.S. for the past 8 year, huh? And I DO think prominent Jews discuss this stuff. If you’re listening only to Pacifica you’re getting a particularly fringe version of everything. Avram Berg, Noam Chomsky, Naomi Klein and many others are writing and talking about the unsustainability of the current status quo in Israel.
