VilasMemberI used to live in Chicago too, and got the same deal, not just in Hacidic areas, but also at college. It’s morbind fascination I think. Or forbidden fruit or something like that, a mentality created by Zionist Vs. Palestinian conflict in the ME. Montague vs Capulet? Hey Hacidic Jewish guys: anything to say in defense?

Hayat R.MemberHere is a really weird question that has been going the circuit with Muslim women: Why do young Jewish men stare at us so much? I lived in a Hassidic Jewish area, and so many of the young men my age very obviously stare at me and others I know. It doesn’t seem to be a mean-spirited stare, so I can’t figure it out. Is there some strange urban legend about us Muslim girls? What’s the deal?

Dennis B.ParticipantMy guess is they want to get to know you better. It is true, however, that you might not get to find this out, even if you approach them. Nineteen-year-old boys always seem to find members of the opposite sex interesting across many cultural and ethnic boundaries. Acting on that interest is something else entirely. Flying through boys’ minds are probably questions ranging from ‘What would my rabbi/mom/friend think?’ to ‘Gee, I wonder what she looks like naked.’ If you dress or act differently than the Jewish girls they know, all the more reason to stare – and all the more questions.
