As a parent of 2 ‘BIRACIAL’ children, I find the term ‘mulatto’ very offensive. I believe that one who uses such a word is ignorant. It brings up the memory of slavery in the U.S. and how races were forcibly mixed during that time era. Please just call people of mixed-races what they are: People/Human Beings.

I think it all depends on the person. The actual term was used to describe slaves that had mixed ancestory. Most people haven’t heard this term used. The only placed i have personally heard it used is down south when older people talked about members of my family. So you should try not to use this word.

It has nothing to do with horses. Mulatto is a racial term, just like negro. Originally it was not an offensive one, but nowadays it is considered kind of old-fashioned or politically not so correct. Anyway, the term itself isn’t racist, but if you’re offended, you should ask your friend(s) to use some other terms – like biracial, for example.

The term mulatto was used to describe people of two parents of different races. One parent was black, and one was white or of another race. It is not politically correct to use that term. The new P.C. meaning is bi-racial. Tell your friend that before she offends someone.
