DanMemberIt seems to me that societal friction arises more from behavioral/cultural differences than it does from physical differences. Why, then, do African Americans go out of their way to accentuate the differences? Suppose I were to discover that my ancestry was largely Scottish. If I then started speaking with a brogue, wearing a kilt and took up playing a bagpipe I’d be viewed as a fool. My understanding is that most African Americans are at least third or fourth generationand that the African culture was not passed down to them from their parents. I find nothing wrong with knowing about and celebrating your heritage, what ever that may be. But it seems to me that the heritage of African Americans is at least as much American as it is African. The dress, names, etc. adopted by many seem to be just that: adopted. It seems artificial and counterproductive to racial harmony.
