I run a small business and am curious if the culture i India promotes bartering. I feel that most Indians are not happy with a sale unless they have received some sort of price reduction, no matter how well off they are financially. I have actually caught myself telling them on the phone that I am out of a product so that I am not bartered with if they come into my place of business.
