Many Asian families I know came to this country dirt poor, sent their kids to the same under-funded public schools as ‘disadvantaged’ minority kids, received NO government assistance because of linguistic barriers, yet managed to send their children to college, buy a home and car, and move into another income bracket! If immigrants and ‘disadvantaged’ minorities start out with the same economic handicaps, can we justify calling some minorities ‘disadvantaged’? Or do they lack the motivation and discipline to improve their lot in life? Why can’t ‘disadvantaged’ minorities succeed like immigrants (diligently strive to academically and financially achieve)? ‘Disadvantaged’ ethnic minorities need to stop pointing fingers at racism and prejudice and plough into their work. What do you think?
