Hi, I have a big question but no better way of asking it. I’m very much Australian in culture, and I notice that my beloved Aussie culture helps me understand some cultures, and hinders me understanding others. I want to understand all kinds of people but I have endless troubles with certain cultural groups, so here goes: Arabs: How come Arabs are always angry in the news, and cold in person (in Malaysia)? I know they must be warm and fascinating people but I don’t know how to ‘connect’ with them at all. The Aussie way is to be very upfront and direct, but that seems to be counterproductive, so I’m confused. Please help me know how to speak to Islamic people. Also, I don’t understand the sacred Quran at all. I apologise: the Quran is badly written compared to the Bible, because it is made up of loose and incoherent preaching, with no stories or interesting images. I can’t get into it, and I wish I could… any suggestions?
